“Today I had to say goodbye to my best friend, Roscoe Braff,” Braff wrote on Instagram. “He made it 17 years! I feel so lucky that we found each other.”

The tribute post had a plethora of pictures including ones of Roscoe as a puppy and one of him licking Braff goodbye on the hospital table.

“Goodbye, my old friend,” he continued. “We’ll catch up some other time.”

Braff is encouraging others to adopt and says it was the best decision he’s ever made.

Braff’s girlfriend, actress Florence Pugh, also shared a tribute on her Instagram for Roscoe, who she says was “the coolest of the cool.”

“Goodnight sweet Roscoe,” she wrote. “Thank you for all the love you gave and for all the kisses you treated me to.”

“I genuinely count myself lucky that I got to see such a beautiful friendship between a man and his dog.”
