The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office shared a press release explaining that the Hillsborough Township Police Department responded to Jaheim’s neighborhood for a call regarding a “puppy in distress.”

After surveying the area, police discovered six dogs in crates in the driveway of Jaheim’s house. All six dogs were without food and were being kept in crates filled with feces and several inches of water. One of the dogs was unresponsive.

While caring for the dogs and waiting for animal control to arrive, officers heard more barking coming from inside and went in to investigate. They discovered 9 additional dogs inside, all without food and water.

Two of the dogs were immediately transported to an animal veterinary clinic for emergency treatment, and one was ultimately euthanized due to the severity of its neglected state.

12 of the 15 dogs were pit bull mixes, two were American Staffordshire Terriers, and one was a boxer mix.

44-year-old Jaheim Hoagland was arrested on the spot and charged with “3rd degree Animal Cruelty and Failure to provide necessary care to an animal, a Disorderly Persons offense.” He was also arrested for multiple other unrelated warrants.

Jaheim is a Grammy-nominated singer, known for his hits like “Put That Woman First” (2003) and “Fabulous” (2003).

According to an RnB news site, ThisIsRnB, Jaheim has sold 5 million records worldwide and received three Grammy nominations.

The dogs found at his residence were all evaluated by a veterinarian before being released to Long Hill Kennel in Hillsborough, New Jersey.
